2026 Buchberger & Coppi – documentary photography: photo series and photo story, photos by Andreas Muhs

Buchberger & Coppi, Berlin-Lichtenberg, 2026, 53 photos, analogue

Between Buchberger Straße and Coppistraße in the Berlin district of Lichtenberg lies a commercial area with various halls and industrial buildings. To the south and east, the area is bordered by railway tracks and facilities, to the west and north by high Plattenbau blocks. The concrete slabs of Buchberger Straße, the above-ground district heating pipes as well as some industrial buildings are unchanged witnesses from the time of their origin in the GDR. Alongside the old stock, new buildings for a discounter and a petrol station are also emerging in the area. The former heating plant has been extensively renovated. Further north, a huge wasteland has already existed for several years. A DIY store and another discounter have been built on the former railway sites. Opposite, a small shopping centre was replaced by an office complex. The somewhat hidden Buchberger Straße begins in the south under three narrow railway bridges at Pfarrstraße and ends in the north at the vast open spaces of Frankfurter Allee. Since only early Sunday mornings were suitable for the shots, I had to discover that people were staying overnight in many older cars with Eastern European number plates.
