Europacity is located north of Hauptbahnhof. For a long time, the area was known for Lehrter Bahnhof, the freight station of the same name, the wasteland, and small businesses along Heidestraße. It was a desolate area. Heidestraße still exists, Lehrter Bahnhof became Hauptbahnhof, and the ambitious plans to build apartments and offices in a contemporary style on the site resulted in the largely vegetation-free and unimaginative Europacity.
