2011 Stadtautobahn – documentary photography: photo series and photo story, photos by Andreas Muhs

Stadtautobahn, Berlin, 2011, 58 photos, digital

The urban motorway A 100, with its feeders A 111 in the northwest, A 115 in the southwest, and A 113 in the southeast, rolls like a foreign body through the city. It began as a West Berlin project and was intended to be expanded into a city ring road in the event of reunification. It separates streets and neighborhoods and creates uninhabitable urban spaces along its edges and under its bridges. Although the traffic concept is considered outdated, the completion of the city ring road is being pursued – after all, motorway planning is a federal matter. Neither protest nor the realization that no meter of motorway is more expensive than in Berlin can help against this. Image 40990 made it onto the cover of "Stern" magazine in August 2014 for the theme "Nightmare Motorway".
