1991-1993 Trabant – documentary photography: photo series and photo story, photos by Andreas Muhs

Trabant, Berlin, 1991-1993, 131 photos, analogue

The waiting period for a new Trabant was said to have been up to twenty years. At the time of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the car became a symbol of the Iron Curtain's breakthrough. After reunification, however, the Trabant was replaced as quickly as possible and forgotten by the roadside. Then, a blind urge for destruction set in, which could symbolize the period of upheaval and disorientation. In the case of the most severe damage, it remains unclear what tools and forces caused it. The wrecks were long a natural part of the streetscape until they gradually disappeared.
